FLIP SIDE

FLIP SIDE is the centerpiece of an international collaboration between The Talking Band and designer Anna Kiraly, supported by a Fellowship from the Theater Communications Group. Last season, Anna collaborated on two Talking Band productions, designing the animations for DELICIOUS RIVERS and the set of THE NECKLACE.
Whereas designers are typically asked to imagine a visual world in response to a preconceived text, FLIP SIDE inverts this process by giving the visual designer free rein to create a world—any world—and then challenges the playwright and the ensemble to build a play inspired by it.
FLIP SIDE will have three incarnations. The first production was with students and faculty at Smith College in Massachusetts in October of 2007; the second will be with Hungarian actors in Debrecen, Hungary in May of 2008; and the final production will be with performers of The Talking Band at the Connelly Theatre in New York City from Sept. 26-Oct. 19, 2008.
